Patriciu Patrick Mateescu

Born in 1927 in Romania. He studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucarest from 1946 to 1950. In 1979 he immigrated to the USA. His activity in Romania transformed the approach to ceramics, influencing a whole generation of artists. His works are eclectic and unpredictable, going from small and large scale cast porcelain to unique stoneware figurative monuments in Romania and the USA and to the recent abstract-animist compositions. Since 1962 the artist has participated in numerous exhibitions and symposiums in  Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, and the USA. He has arranged a number of solo exhibitions. The artist has won several prestigious awards such as Gold Medal at XXXVI International Ceramic Show in Faenza, Italy (1978), Midlantic Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council of the Arts (1999), Order of M. Eminescu from the Romanian Government for outstanding contribution to the Romanian culture (2000). His works are included in the collections of Belgian, Czech, Romanian, Swiss museums. The artist works at his studio in New Jersey.
