Frederick L. Olsen

Born in 1938. Frederick graduated from the University of Redlands (BA: Liberal Arts, 1959) and the University of Southern California, Los Angeles (MFA: Ceramics, 1967). Since 1961 he has had numerous one man museum and gallery exhibitions as well as invitational group exhibitions in North America, Australia, Asia, and Europe. He is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC). The artist has won several prestigious awards such as National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship (1976), Prize at the International Ceramics Exhibition in Mino, Japan and at the International Sculpture Competition in New York, USA (both in 1987). National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) awarded F. Olsen the title of Honorary Member of the Council in recognition of outstanding accomplishment and notable contributions to the ceramic arts (2007). He has travelled and worked in Australia, Denmark, France, India, Japan, Peru, Vietnam and other countries. In 1971 he patented a kiln design (Olsen Kiln Kits) and established his own kiln company. Frederick is the author of „The Kiln Book“ (1973).
The artist was a participant of the symposiums in 1993 and 1998.
