She graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa (BFA: 1978) and from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana (MFA: 1982). Since 1978 she has participated in numerous exhibitions world-wide and symposiums in Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, China, France, Japan, Latvia, Poland, and the USA. She has curated a number of exhibitions. From 1995 to 1997 she was President of the Society of North American Goldsmiths. She is Professor of Art and Chair of the Ceramics and Metal Programs the School of Art and Design in the College of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Illinois since 1985. The artist has received numerous awards for her work including a Visual Arts Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and five Artists Fellowship Grants from the Illinois Arts Council for excellence in Crafts. Additionally, she holds two patents for Colored Metal Clay. Her works are included in the collections of Czech, Polish, and USA museums.
She was a participant of the symposium in 2008.
